Ebonyi Empowers Youths, Women with N750m, 130 Tricycles

The Ebonyi State government has released N750 million and procured 130 tricycles for the empowerment of youths and women in the state.

The Commissioner for Empowerment and Job Creation, Mr. Uchenna Orji, who stated this in Abakaliki Monday, added that the state government is creating a data base for 700,000 unemployed and unempowered youths including members of the recently proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Ebonyians residing outside the state.

He expressed the determination of the present administration towards ensuring that a large chunk of the unemployed youths including women are economically empowered to improve their standards of living.

The commissioner, who stated that the empowerment scheme is not restricted to only the indigenes but also non-indigenes who are residing in the state, added that the whole idea behind the scheme is to boost the state’s economic base and per capita income of the people.

He said: “N750 million had so far been released by the state government for the youth women empowerment programme and N4 billion for entrepreneurship and industrialisation of the state. N2 billion for civil servants empowerment and N130m for Lagos Street to skill empowerment programme; procurement of 130 tricycles for Onitsha Diaspora empowerment programmes and N6 million for empowerment of six horticulturists.”
