Security operatives yesterday invaded the Abuja home of Mary Ekpenyong, an aide to the Senate Minority Leader, and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio.

The operatives, believed to be from the Department of State Services (DSS), raided  Ekpenyong’s home for undisclosed reasons.

A private security man guarding the compound located in the Jabi District, said the armed men forcibly gained access to the house using metal equipment.

“Six armed persons came to the compound and ask for Madam and I told them the family travelled to Akwa Ibom State.

“When I asked them to identify themselves, they shouted at me to shut up. One of them asked me to produce the keys to the house and threatened to deal with me if I don’t oblige them.

“They told me they came to find the stockpile of arms and money hidden in the compound by the Akpabio.

“Since I couldn’t produce the keys, they brought out some equipment and forced the doors open and ransacked all the rooms,” the security man said.

The move according to sources is another strategy to get at top hierarchy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the victory of the party at the Supreme Court.

Head of Media and Information, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Wilson Uwujaren, denied any knowledge of the raid.

Meanwhile,  EFCC also dismissed news and photos being circulated in the social media alleging that the commission had raided a residence of Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima, discovering a huge sum of dollars.

Uwujaren explained that there was no iota of truth about the photos, adding:  “we are not aware of anything like that.”

Also speaking, the media aide to Shettima, Isa Gusau, said: “The pictures being circulated were obtained from the internet in order to tarnish the governor’s image.

“It is just a continuation of series of mischief being planted by some evil politicians to discredit Shettima. This is the seventh mischief in two weeks.

“They started with an alleged phone call with Governor Ibikunle Amosun, came with different press conferences including one on workers verification and then the latest.

“I am sure they will continue till the 2019 elections are over but they should know that even Boko Haram couldn’t distract Governor Shettima” Gusau stated.
