Lawyer, Youth Leader Assassinated in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command yesterday confirmed the killing of two persons by yet to be identified assassins in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State at the weekend.

 THISDAY gathered that the two victims were a lawyer, Mr. Mfon Etukudo and youth leader simply identified as Mr. Paragi.

While Etukudo hailed from Idung Nneke community in Ukanafun, the youth leader was said to be an indigene of Nkek Urua Uko village also in the local government area.

Sources in Ukanafun said the hoodlums shot and killed the lawyer yesterday, while Parag was murdered last Saturday at about 6p.m. at a barbing saloon in Nkek Urua Uko village.

Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police Command, Mr. Chukwu Ikechukwu, said the Ukanafun police division had sent a signal to the command to that effect.

According to him, the corpses had been recovered and deposited in the mortuary for autopsies, reassuring the people in the locality of their safety.

He said: “Right now, the policemen are on ground; they are doing everything to restore calm in the area.

“Effort is on top gear to trace killers of the two men. So, we are not going to relent on our desire to nab the assailants.”
