Starting next week, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson, would begin a comprehensive collation of all unemployed graduates in the state with a view to engaging them in the state civil service.
The Governor who spoke when students’ leaders from the National Union of Bayelsa State students (NUBSS) visited him at the Government House in Yenagoa, said he would next week inaugurate a special committee to oversee the proposed census.
He said the move was necessary in order to replace ghost workers and retiring employees in the civil service who are being fished out in the ongoing verification exercise.
The governor who thanked the students for declaring their support for the newly introduced compulsory education levy and various other policies, promised to ensure the success of all the programmes in the education sector.
“Let me use this opportunity again to call on every Bayelsan to gear up for the new Bayelsa, the new Bayelsa of enlightenment, the new Bayelsa where we want to move away from crime, criminality, cultism and other social vices”, he said.
He promised to support the students union body to set up a befitting secretariat, get them a bus to enable their mobility and ensure their inclusion in the implementation of the state’s educational policies.
Earlier, President of NUBSS worldwide, Mr. Ozu Important, had told the governor of their total support for the two education laws which were recently passed into law, especially the education trust fund law.
Meanwhile, a former Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Turner Isoun has been cleared by Bayelsa lawmakers as the first chairman of the newly constituted Education Trust Fund board.
The legislators unanimously confirmed his nomination, describing him as the “best man for the job because of his impeccable integrity and uprightness”
They asked him to take a bow, expressing delight that in no distant time the state will experience a major boost in the education sector.
