The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Aliyu Sabiu Maduru, was removed during a plenary session on Wednesday.
Twenty-three lawmakers out of the 34 in the house voted in favour of the speaker’s removal.
The House Majority Leader, Mr. Hanbali Faruk from Katsina constituency, moved the motion for Maduru’s removal which was seconded by the member representing Funtua constituency, Mr Abubakar Total.
The lawmakers also elected Alhaji Yahya Abubakar from Kusada Local Government Area of the state as the new Speaker.
The new Speaker, Abubakar has been sworn in during the plenary.
The Assembly’s Chief Whip, Hon. Bishir Mamman Dutsinma was also removed and replaced with the member representing Daura constituency, Hon. Nasir Yahaya.
