Sallah: IGP Orders AIGs, CPs to Deploy Officers to Praying Grounds

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has ordered all Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal Commands and all Commissioners of Police in the States to deploy adequate personnel to Eid-el-Kabir praying grounds, recreation Centres and public places.

He said, this has become expedient in order to ensure adequate security and to guarantee utmost protection of life and property during the celebration and the public holidays.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Force PPRO, Mr. Donald Awunah, on behalf of the IGP, in Abuja, added that the CPs should collaborate with sister security agencies for joint operations.

He said: “The Commissioners of Police, should cultivate intelligence, interface with community leaders to monitor the activities of undesirable elements in the society, who may take undue advantage of the public holidays to cause mischief within and around the towns and cities.

“The Police mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Units, Explosive Ordinance Department and personnel and of criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department will also be deployed to all the locations mentioned above.”

According to him, there is need to sustain Police surveillance to vulnerable points and other identifiable hot spots to prevent criminalities during the Sallah celebration and beyond.

He however said that the Police is confident that with effective operational strategies in place will guarantee a peaceful and hitch free Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

He however implores them to be vigilant and continue to support the Police to prevent crimes in their localities.

Idris said: “I wish to commend the dedication and commitment of officers in ensuring that security and peace prevail throughout the country despite the enormous challenges.”
