*As Enugu marks 25th anniversary

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state said on Saturday that he would soon send an Executive Bill to the House of Assembly for the amendment of the State’s pension laws to accommodate past civilian Governors of the old Anambra and Enugu States and their deputies in appreciation of their contributions and services to the state.
The governor spoke as the state marked 25th anniversary of its creation by the General Ibrahim Babangida administration on August 27, 1991.
Addressing a cross section of the people of the state at Okpara Square Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi acknowledged the contributions of legends and giants of Nigerian history such as Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Professor Eyo Ita, Dr. Michael Okpara, Dr Akanu Ibiam, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Dr Ukpabi Asika, Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo and Chief C.C Onoh.
He said the legends made immense contribution to the development of Enugu in their respective roles as Premiers, Administrators and
Governors of Eastern Region, East Central State and Old Anambra State-all precursors to the present Enugu State.
Ugwuanyi who before his speech called for one minute silence for those killed or wounded by Fulani herdsmen last Thursday when they invade Attakwu-Akagbeugwu community in Nkanu West local government area of the state, noting; “but for the fact that this ceremony has already been scheduled and preparations concluded, we would have been inclined to postpone this ceremony in appreciation of the profound feelings of the people of Enugu State over the sad development.”
