As the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strategize on plans to hold its next national convention on August 17, the Board of Trustees has reminded members that the chairmanship of the party is not for the highest bidder.

As part of its renewed efforts to find lasting peace in the party, the BoT said that it has set up another peace committee headed by Prof. Jerry Gana to reach out to the aggrieved former national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The position of the BoT came just as the chairman of the national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, assured that everyone is still free to contest any position despite the zoning arrangement approved by the party.

The chairman of the BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, said that what the party at the moment needs is an honest and upright person, not someone who will buy his way into office.

“This party is not for sale. This party must be a party of very conscious people. We are telling every delegate to reject anybody that comes with money. We need an honest and upright person. This party will not want somebody that will come and buy his way into office,” he said.

Jibrin who spoke on Friday during the inauguration of the planing committees for the convention, warned that the BoT will no longer accept any leadership that is forced on the party.

“We must remind all of us that the party is supreme for all is us and above personal interest. This party is not for sale. This party must be a party of very conscious people. We are telling every delegate to reject anybody that come with money. We need an honest and upright person. This party will not want somebody that will come and buy his way into office,” he said.
