Vice chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali‎ has canvassed for strong law that would strongly protect girl child and women so as to end series of impunity against them.

Speaking in Ilorin yesterday while declaring open a workshop on the titled, “Tackling Violence Against Women: How Potent Can the International Criminal Court Bite” organised by the department of Jurisprudence and International Law of University of Ilorin to mark the 2016 International Criminal Justice Day,

Ambali said that the need for the adequate law to protect the girl and women became imperative in view of the psychological and physical damage the attacks on them had done to their families.

According to him, “As a child, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, the female gender carries the burden of the home and the society on her shoulder, until her strength is spent”.

Ambali, who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Professor Sidikat Ijaya, queried, “Why should a father, a friend of the family or a neighbour subject even a three-year old girl to sexual violence?”
