As efforts to rescue vulnerable girls who get impregnated from rape, District Governor of District 402 Nigeria, International Association of Lions Club, Dr. Funke Adebajo, has inaugurated a water plant factory at the Ozanam House, where these girls will work, live and make money for themselves. This was her optimal project to cement her service year as the DG for 2015/2016. “I inaugurated this water plant factory today for vulnerable girls who got pregnant mostly from rape. This aims to sustain them so that they can have something to lean back on.”
Adebajo, at the inauguration held at Agidingbi Lagos, enthused that the idea is to help them learn how to set up their own factories.
“For those, who may not be interested in setting up theirs, they will be employed. They will earn and save money to cater for themselves. Now, this is marking the end of her service year as a DG, I thank God that we have achieved so much in one year. Every month, we have carried out three to four activities.”
Interesting, Adebajo wrapped up her tenure with the award night at Oregun. She described it as a day to appreciate all the Lions, who assisted her to achieve this much. “I am glad that at the end of my service, I am able to complete the agenda I mapped out for myself. And I make bold to say that it was unprecedented in the history of Lionism,” she said.
Meanwhile, members rolled out drums for Senator Gbenga Ashafa, who was officially made a Lion at the award night. He was decorated with a badge of membership into the great pride of the Lion’s Club, Ikeja branch. Ashafa, alongside his wife, Mrs. Shade Ashafa, embraced the membership with mannered smiles and laughter. “It is an honour, indeed, to be in your midst.”
In his message to the Lions present, he urged that whatever they were doing at Lion, they should not wait anyone to appreciate them with a ‘thank you.’ “Don’t wait for anyone to say ‘thank you’. Continue with the good work.”While being adorned alongside his wife by the outgoing DG, Adebajo, members chanted mellifluously the song of the converts: “He has decided to be a Lion. No turning back!” Having officially been embraced into their den, the DG handed him safely to the Ikeja Club President. The two senators were inducted with a song “Lionism, I no go tire.
I no go tire.” With the District’s theme for year ‘Our Community, Our Future’ with the corresponding slogan of ‘Our Future, Our World, Adebajo kindled members once more. “I encourage clubs and individual Lions to bear in mind as we deliver services to the needy, the less privileged and to our society, to keep the flag flying at all times in words and in action.”
