76 others to be disengaged in June

About 106 workers of University Staff schools in the country have been allegedly sacked by the federal government, while 76 other members from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State were also said to be on the waiting list for sack by government.
Also, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Abuja chapter, yesterday took a swipe at the management of the university for engaging illegally, over 200 staff, without following the due process.
SSANU made this known during its NEC meeting at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for a labour Studies (MINILS) Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Deputy President of SSANU, Moses Adeniyi-Aogo, who represented the president of the association, Samson Ugwoke, dropped the hint that the staff of university staff school at the OAU may be shown the way out in June.
The federal government had through a circular mandated the Salary Income and Wages Commission in 2015 to compel Vice Chancellors of federal universities to remove names of workers of university staff schools from the government payroll latest December 2016.
SSANU had protested the decision of government alleging that “the directive could put over 2,000 staff the schools in the labour market, thereby compounding the already unemployment problem in the country.”
SSANU disclosed that “71 staff of unity schools from the University of Ilorin had already been laid off and another 45 from the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA.”
The Vice President of SSANU, Western zone, Comrade Alfred Jimoh said: The association from the zone was already bearing the brunt as it had taken the responsibility to pat stipends to the affected workers for their upkeep.
Jimoh also stated that disengagement letter had not been issued to the 76 staff of the OAU staff school, but their salaries had been stopped since February as they were paid salary last in January.
He explained that the affected staff of staff schools in University of Ilorin and the Federal University of Technology Akure have taken the matter to court on behalf of their members separately and collective, while SSANU is at the National Industrial Court over the matter and that between the end of May and June, the court may deliver judgement on it.
Also, SSANU branch chairman of University of Abuja, Comrade Jude Nwabueze yesterday accused the management of the university of embarking on recruitment of workers without due recourse to due process.
Comrade Nwabueze tasked members “to rise up and challenge some of the abnormally perpetuated by the university management said he had taken up the matter with the Federal Character Commission, FCC, which he said had not given credence to the employment.
He maintained that the “illegal employees were not recognised by the government, the management had decided to cut short salaries of authentic staff to accommodate the newly recruited ones.”
