The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, has expressed the federal government’s determination to provide a conducive environment for its work force to help drive its the change agenda.
Oyo–Ita disclosed this in Abuja during a town hall meeting with members of the Joint Union Negotiating Council (JUNC) of her office held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN).
The HoS noted that government was not unaware of the deplorable facilities at various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), which hinders workers from performing their duties diligently, saying government would do everything humanly possible to provide a conducive working environment for workers in order to ensure optimum productivity.
The HoS assured that the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari was committed to the provision of better welfare services for workers so as to help ameliorate their sufferings particularly in the area of provision of decent and affordable accommodation.
She stressed that modalities are being worked out on how workers could earn their own home through the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Programme with little or no pains.
On the issues of pension and other financial entitlements of workers, Oyo-Ita promised that she would leave no stone unturned to ensure that all matters relating to pensions and other financial entitlements of workers are resolved.
She reminded the workers of the need to imbibe the highest level of discipline during their official responsibilities, as well as shunning all forms of corrupt practices and strictly operate according to the Public Service Rules (PSR).
She said her vision was to have an Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible and Citizen-Centred (EPIC) civil service, which would be commercially oriented and innovative.
Oyo-Ita thanked workers for their understanding, patience, loyalty, commitment and punctuality to duty even with the current fuel crises that is affecting the smooth movement across the country.
Earlier, the President of JUNC, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation chapter, Olaiya Bisola Sunday appealed to the HoS to use her good offices as a mother of the Nigerian workers to explore possible ways to seeing that their welfare was enhanced with a view to boosting their morale for effective service delivery.
He said civil servants remained the only Nigerian workers whose take home pay could not afford them a decent accommodation or own houses even after 35 years of serving the country.
