NiMSA to Hold Health Summit in Abuja December 2–5

The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) will hold its 2026 Health Summit in Abuja from December 2 to 5, bringing together medical students, healthcare professionals, policymakers and health technology innovators to discuss challenges and opportunities in healthcare delivery.

The summit, themed “The Next Frontier: Leadership, Innovation and the Future of African Healthcare,” is expected to attract more than 200 delegates from accredited medical schools across Nigeria, according to the organisers.

The annual event aims to strengthen leadership capacity among medical students and encourage collaboration on healthcare policy, research, innovation and service delivery.

Discussions are expected to address healthcare workforce shortages, migration of medical professionals, inadequate infrastructure, infectious diseases, climate-related health risks and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

Other areas of focus will include primary healthcare, digital health technologies, sexual and reproductive health, medical research, epidemic preparedness and health policy.

The programme will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, technical workshops, leadership sessions, research presentations, innovation exhibitions and mentorship activities.

A major component will be a Health Innovation Hackathon, where participating students, young healthcare professionals and health technology innovators will develop proposals aimed at addressing healthcare challenges.

Shortlisted teams are expected to present their ideas to a panel of experts from the healthcare, business and investment sectors. The organisers said the winning team would be considered for mentorship, funding and technical support to develop its proposed solution.

According to the proposed schedule, delegates will arrive and register on December 2, while leadership, management, technology and innovation sessions will take place on December 3. Policy, advocacy, innovation and professional responsibility discussions are scheduled for December 4, alongside a dinner and awards ceremony. Delegates are expected to depart on December 5.

NiMSA is also seeking sponsorships and partnerships from corporate organisations, healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical companies, development agencies and other interested stakeholders.

The organisers said partnership opportunities would include financial sponsorship, technical support, capacity-building programmes, media partnerships, health outreach initiatives and exhibitions.

The association said the summit was intended to promote engagement between emerging healthcare professionals and organisations working to improve health outcomes in Nigeria and across Africa.
