MTN’s 25-Year Journey from First Calls to Digital Connectivity Comes Alive
MTN Nigeria has opened its Y’ello Street Experience in Lagos as part of activities marking its 25th anniversary, giving Nigerians an opportunity to experience the company’s journey and reflect on how connectivity has transformed communication and everyday life over the past quarter of a century.
The week-long experience, holding in Lagos, takes visitors through key moments in the evolution of mobile communication, from the early days of voice calls and SMS to smartphones, mobile internet and digital services.
More than a showcase of technology, the experience offers visitors an opportunity to see how connectivity has changed the way Nigerians communicate, work, conduct business, access information and stay connected.
For many participants, the journey has also brought back personal memories of Nigeria’s changing digital landscape.
“It is amazing to see how much has changed. Things we could not imagine 20 years ago are now normal parts of our everyday lives. The experience really brings that transformation to life,” said Chinedu Okafor, a Lagos-based technology entrepreneur.
Another visitor, Amaka Eze, a communications professional, said the experience offered a fresh perspective on the role of technology in everyday life.
“Technology is not just about the devices. It is about how people use them to change their lives. Seeing the journey from the early phones to what we have today really makes you appreciate how far we have come,” she said.
