Breakthrough Awards Uganda Honours Princess Nnenna Orji as Best Actress in Africa

Nollywood actress Princess Nnenna Orji has received another major career recognition after she was honoured by Breakthrough Awards Uganda as Best Actress in Africa, in recognition of her outstanding talent, versatility, and exceptional contribution to the African film and performing arts industry.

The award recognises the actress for consistently delivering memorable performances and bringing authenticity, passion, and emotional depth to every role she plays. According to the inscription on the award plaque, the honour celebrates her “outstanding talent, versatility, and exceptional contribution to the film and performing arts industry,” noting that her breakthrough achievements reflect “remarkable emotional depth, strong screen presence, and the ability to bring characters to life with authenticity and passion.”

It further commended her dedication, discipline, and artistic excellence, describing her as a performer whose work continues to captivate, inspire, and entertain audiences across Africa.

Reacting to the recognition in a video message, Princess Orji expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organisers and her supporters.

“This is me saying a very big thank you to Breakthrough Awards Uganda for crowning me the Best Actress in Africa. I feel honoured and appreciated. Thank you so much.”

She also congratulated her fellow nominees and winners, while extending special appreciation to Shali Ahmed, a Ugandan actor and model, for his support and encouragement.

The latest honour adds to an already impressive career that began when Princess Orji first appeared in Nollywood as a child actress. After taking time away from the screen to complete her education, where she earned a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, she returned with renewed determination and has continued to establish herself as one of the industry’s dependable talents.

Known for her ability to interpret emotionally demanding roles, Princess Orji has featured in several successful productions, including Love for Nelson, Crossroads of the Heart, I Met an Angel, Healing Energy, Pure Heart, Bitter, Sweet, Sour, and, more recently, Saved By The Maid, released in June 2026 on Global Crown TV, a production that has attracted significant attention from online audiences.

The recognition from Uganda also reflects the growing influence of Nollywood across the African continent and the increasing appreciation for actors whose performances continue to cross borders and connect with audiences beyond Nigeria.

For Princess Nnenna Orji, the Best Actress in Africa award is more than another trophy. It is a recognition of years of consistency, resilience, and commitment to storytelling.

As she continues to take on new roles and expand her presence within African cinema, the actress says the honour will inspire her to keep giving audiences performances that are authentic, impactful, and unforgettable.
