Agege’s New Blueprint: How Vinod Obasa is Redefining Local Governance

Hon. Vinod Obasa took office on December 22, 2025, as the Vice-Chairman who stepped up after his predecessor resigned due to health challenges. Five months later, Agege Local Government has become a case study in grassroots transformation.

Vinod brings an unusual résumé to local government politics. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Aston University in England. He worked at PwC, Providus Bank and Parallex Bank before launching De’Havilland Homes, his real estate firm. He also founded the Vinod Football Academy and serves as CEO of Kings Sports International. This is not a typical political CV for a local council chairman in Lagos.

His father is Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. While that name opens doors, Vinod has chosen to earn his keep through delivery rather than inheritance alone. In March 2026, his peers elected him President of the West African region for a local government leadership body within UCLG Africa, a recognition of his emerging continental profile.

The results inside Agege are becoming visible. His administration has paid JAMB fees for over 1,000 students. Tech and leather hubs are under development to equip residents with practical skills. Roads, sanitation and youth engagement have moved from campaign promises to weekly deliverables.

Vinod represents something larger than himself. He is part of a younger generation of Nigerian political actors who understand that citizens no longer accept visibility without evidence. People demand movement. They demand leadership that touches daily life. Agege is becoming the argument that local government, properly empowered and competently led, can outpace many state-level agencies in speed and relevance.
