Troops engaged in Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have continued to assert firm control over the Ngoshe and Gwoza areas of Borno State, effectively countering insurgents’ narratives and ensuring residents could celebrate Eid-el-Fitr in peace.
In recent weeks, Boko Haram and ISWAP elements have attempted to sow seeds of panic by circulating false claims that they planned to overrun Ngoshe and conduct Sallah prayers at the Central Mosque.
These efforts, aimed at projecting strength, were quickly exposed as baseless.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, in a statement, emphasised that such claims reflected the insurgents’ weakening capacity and increasing reliance on misinformation rather than actual operational capability.
Based on credible intelligence, army troops reinforced Ngoshe following an attempted incursion on 4 March and intensified clearance operations.
Supported by aerial surveillance and cooperation from vigilant local residents, these operations disrupted terrorist movements and led to the neutralisation of several insurgents, further degrading their capacity to cause disruption.
As a result, Ngoshe and the surrounding Gwoza axis remained calm and secure throughout the Sallah period.
Residents were able to observe prayers and celebrate without interference, highlighting the futility of the insurgents’ propaganda.
In demonstration of confidence and authority, troops under the leadership of Brigadier General NI Abdullahi, Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, joined worshippers at the Ngoshe Central Mosque for Eid prayers.
The gesture reassured the community and symbolised the Nigerian Army’s continued dominance over terrorist narratives in the area.
The Chief of Army Staff commended the resilience and cooperation of the local population, whose support remains crucial to sustaining ongoing security successes.
