Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has tasked members of the Advisory Council on the screening of the candidate to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 governorship election.
THISDAY learnt yesterday that the Advisory Council led by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, was given the mandate to screen all the governorship aspirants on the platform of the PDP and present a candidate in continuation of Omituntun 3.0.
The governor’s decision was aimed at giving all the aspirants the opportunity to showcase their potentials as well as preparing a level playing ground for them.
It was gathered that invitation letters have been sent to all the aspirants.
Some of the aspirants that have honoured the invitation include a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Olajide; Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Dr. Debo Akande and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin.
Ayorinde while confirming the development, said the effort was not to screen any candidate, but rather to have an interaction with them to know the plans they have for the state, stating that the exercise which started last Saturday has seen nine aspirants interact with the Council.
He added that although the exercise has been rigorous and painstaking, some other individuals were expected to appear before the Council on today (Monday) for further discussions.
“It is not a screening exercise. It is an interaction between the Governors Advisory Council and the aspirants. We don’t want a situation whereby there will be any form of imposition from any quarter.
“With the cooperation of the governor, the Advisory Council, which I am the Chairman is interacting with all the aspirants, just to know their plans for the state.
“Because of that, we have invited all of them and they have responded to us individually. They are fantastic aspirants,” he added.
