Ex-Lawmaker Lauds FG for 48bn Special Grant to Selected Varsities
A member of the Governing Board of the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja (AAUA), Hon. Chidi Nwogu, has commended President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for the Special High-Impact Intervention Projects, which include selected universities for engineering upgrades.
The Federal Government has approved N48 billion for this initiative. Among the 12 beneficiary institutions is the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja.
Nwogu, a former member of the House of Representatives, in his remarks after the inauguration of the implementation committee on Monday, applauded the vision and drive of the supervising minister of the AAUA; the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; the pro chancellor, the governing council, and the acting vice-chancellor of the university for consistently promoting the university and working towards its advancement.
“This development will not only upgrade these institutions but also position them among the best in Africa in mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, and industrial engineering, as well as emerging specialties like software, aerospace, and biomedical engineering,” he said.
Other beneficiary institutions, which will each receive N4 billion, include the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State,l; Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State; Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State; Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa-Ibom State; Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State; Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State; Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto State; Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences; University of Ilesha, Osun State; Delta State University, and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
