President Bola Tinubu is presiding over a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting, which has the state governors in attendance, is expected to formalise the appointment of Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, as the substantive head of the Nigeria Police Force.

The closed-door session is convened to affirm Disu’s nomination following the resignation of former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun last week.

Monday’s meeting of the council is coming at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with multifaceted security challenges, underscoring the importance of stable leadership at the helm of the nation’s policing architecture.

If confirmed, Disu’s appointment is expected to signal continuity in ongoing security reforms and efforts aimed at strengthening public confidence in the Force.

Upon the council’s endorsement, the president will transmit the appointment to the Senate for confirmation in line with constitutional and statutory provisions.

Among those attending the high-level meeting are Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, many state governors, alongside other statutory members of the council.
