Power Oil Community Initiative Sets New Standard for Brand Health Advocacy

In a demonstration of brand purpose that goes beyond commercial interests, Power Oil has concluded a comprehensive community-building initiative around the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2026, with participants receiving structured training and top finishers awarded a combined N500,000 in prizes.

The Power Oil Exclusive Running Community, which began operations weeks before the February 14 marathon, represents a shift from passive brand sponsorship to active community engagement in health promotion.

The initiative centered on creating an accessible entry point for Nigerians of varying fitness levels to participate in the marathon.

Through weekly training sessions held every Saturday morning, professional coaching, and continuous support via a dedicated WhatsApp community, Power Oil provided resources typically available only to serious athletes.

The programme emphasized inclusivity, welcoming participants regardless of their starting fitness level and to recognize exceptional performance, Power Oil committed N500,000 in cash prizes.

The initiative aligns with Power Oil’s longstanding health advocacy, including:
Annual WalkHeartOn events for World Heart Day, Free health screening camps that have reached over 72,000 Nigerians
Continuous education on heart-healthy cooking and living

Health experts note that community-based fitness initiatives have proven more sustainable than individual efforts.

By creating a support system around marathon preparation, Power Oil has addressed one of the key barriers to fitness adoption: lack of accountability and community.

The success of this initiative may serve as a model for other consumer brands looking to meaningfully engage with health advocacy beyond traditional CSR approaches.

While specific details remain forthcoming, Power Oil has indicated that the exclusive community will continue beyond the marathon, with plans for additional activities and ongoing support for members committed to maintaining healthy lifestyles.
