The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, weekend, pledged a ₦10 million donation to support the initiatives of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), reaffirming the party’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s engineering sector.
Yilwatda made the pledge at the investiture ceremony of the institute’s 22nd President and Chairman-in- Council, Felix Adegboye, in Lagos.
It was themed, ‘Resilient and Intelligent Digital Solutions: Sure Way to Economic Growth of Nigeria’.
Yilwatda who was represented by the Head of Lagos Ports Operations for the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Vonkur David Nankpark, noted the contribution underscores his belief in the critical role engineers play in driving national development and technological advancement.
He added that it is the party’s commitment to ensuring that continuous learning thrives within NIEEE.
He commended Nigerian engineers for their contributions to solving complex national challenges, particularly in key infrastructure areas such as power generation and telecommunications.
The APC chairman noted the party recognises the importance of professional expertise in shaping policies that promote sustainable growth.
He assured the institute that, ” the APC-led government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for engineers to thrive through sustained investment in education, research and development, as well as policies that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Yilwatda also congratulated the newly elected President of the institute, Felix Adegboye, expressing confidence his leadership would inspire members toward greater excellence.
He urged him to prioritise collaboration, inclusivity and innovation during his tenure; and also applauded newly conferred fellows of the institute.
He described their elevation as a testament to hard work, dedication and professional impact. He encouraged them to “continue to push boundaries and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
In his remarks, Adegboye explained his tenure would be guided by the philosophy of empowering the institute’s chapters and developing the country together.
“We will bring the institute closer to professionals, institutions and communities, nurturing regional leadership and creating opportunities for participation and growth nationwide.”
He said this will be achieved through continuous training and mentorship programmes across NIEEE’s chapters nationwide, partnerships with sister organisations, and a strong ethical foundation built on transparency and efficient digital systems.
Among other key deliverables of his administration, he said, are the procurement of an official bus for the institute and the fencing and protection of all NIEEE’S assets nationwide.
