Insecurity: Niger Reopens More Schools

Following improved security in many local governments in Niger state, the government has directed the reopening of more schools from Monday.
The government reopened some schools on January 12 but after they were closed for about 6 weeks as a result of the kidnap by terrorists of 230 pupils, students and teachers from the St Mary’s Catholic Primary Secondary School Papiri in Agwara local government area.
A statement made available to newsmen in Minna on Saturday showed that schools in some local governments where terrorism and banditry are no longer pronounced are to reopen.
The affected schools are however located mostly in the local government headquarters .
The statement signed by Hassan Mohammed Director Schools and Educational services Ministry of Basic Education explained that the date for the reopening of some schools in Paikoro local government area will be announced later.
The statement with the title : “Second Phase Schools Reopening Notice” reads: ” In compliance with security assessment of our schools the attached list of public and private schools across the state have been cleared by the security agencies for reopening effective Monday 26th January ,2026
“The list of schools in Paikoro local government will follow as soon as possible.”
