Yomi Awobokun, Siblings Bid Farewell to Mum

“Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a loving mother is the greatest of them all,” says a popular quote.

To say that oil and gas guru, Yomi Awobokun, founder of Enyo Retail and Supply, and his siblings were blessed with a loving mother is definitely stating the obvious. Their mother, Beatrice Awobokun, until her death, was one in a million whose love and care guided her children to who and what they are today. Her love was sweeter than the flower of love.

No one would have such a mother and wouldn’t be distraught when she passes on. But death is inevitable.

Though Yomi and his siblings would have wished their mother, even at 98 lived longer, that was not to be! The children who were still revelling in the Yuletide mood and were looking forward to the dawn of a new year, 2026, received the shattering news of the sudden death of their nonagenarian mother.

They were troubled and pained by the passing of their matriarch. When such a mother goes home to rest, nothing must be spared to make her last journey as grandiose as possible. It was indeed a befitting and deserved grand goodbye last Thursday to a worthy matriarch.

The funeral rites started on Wednesday with a Christian wake-keep at All Saints Church, Montgomery, Yaba, Lagos, and then a funeral service on Thursday at the same church before she was finally laid to rest at a private interment.

Mama has been variously described as a trailblazer in every sense and a rare figure whose legacy is not just remembered, but felt. In the values she stood for and in the paths she helped shape.

The woman, who was also a mother-in-law to the former minister for Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, was survived by children and grandchildren, including Yomi Awobokun, Dr Abimbola Awobokun, Adebimpe Odunowo, Abiodun Aganga, Olawunmi Ajakaye, among several others.
