Afriwood Studios Unveils Afriwood Comics App, Gateway to Afriwood Universe

Afriwood Studios, an African-led entertainment company with operations in Nigeria and Newark, New Jersey (USA), has announced the launch of the Afriwood Comics App, a digital platform created to publish and distribute stories from the growing Afriwood Universe to mobile audiences worldwide.

The company said the app will officially launch on December 4, 2026, describing it as a strategic step in building African intellectual property (IP) through a pipeline that begins with digital comics and expands into animation, film, and broader brand experiences.

According to Afriwood Studios, the Afriwood Comics App is designed to serve as a central home for readers to discover new titles, follow ongoing series, and engage with interconnected characters and storylines across the Afriwood Universe.

Speaking on the announcement, Urenna Amadi, Founder/Creator of Afriwood Studios, said the platform is intended to strengthen distribution and consistency while creating room for African creators to grow.

“The Afriwood Comics App isn’t just a platform—it’s a major step for our storytelling,” Amadi said. “We’re building a professional stage where our stories can release consistently, reach global audiences, and create opportunities for artists and storytellers.”

Afriwood Studios said its wider ecosystem includes Afriwood Comics (publishing), Afriwood Motion Pictures (screen production), Afriwood Film Academy (training and talent development), the Afriwood Films Initiative (community and creative opportunities), and Afriwood Stores (official merchandise and retail), connecting the journey from story creation to audience and fan engagement.

The company added that beyond content distribution, it is also focused on providing opportunities for emerging creatives through training, mentorship, and structured collaborations for writers, artists, and production teams.

Among the key titles expected to feature prominently on the platform is Shutter-Bird — First Nigerian Superhero, created by Urenna Amadi, which the studio describes as a flagship property within the Afriwood Universe.

Afriwood Studios said the app launch aligns with a broader long-term plan to connect publishing, animation development, film ambitions, talent development, and merchandise under one unified vision for African-led entertainment.
