Factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said it would conduct a national convention early next year after the conduct of its state congresses where the exercise has yet to take place.
It also called on the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-PDP to produce evidence of recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the November 15 and 16 national convention in Ibadan.
Addressing reporters after the factional National Caretaker Committee, the new factional spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, in a communique of the meeting said, ‘’the NWC has approved the calendar for the conduct of state congresses starting from January 9th, 2026, after which the national convention follows.”
The communique stated that no formal date has been announced for the national convention but explained that it could only come after a conclusion of the state congresses we just mentioned.
It listed states where fresh congresses would take place as Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobi, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
The communique also announced the expansion of the National Caretaker Committee of the party.
The new members of the National Caretaker Committee were Professor Adenike Ogunse, Women Leader, Engineer Deji Dohati, Deputy National Secretary, Senator Olaka Nwaogu Treasurer, Honorable Jungu Haruna Mohammed, Publicity, Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki to function as the youth leader.
Challenging the mainstream party led by Turaki to produce evidence of recognition by INEC, he explained that the document being displayed on the Ekiti State governorship was a stale one signed by the former national chairman, Amb Illya Damagum and former national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Accordingly, he challenged Turaki led party to present the code for which the governorship candidate and his running mate would use to access the INEC code.
The new factional spokesman said, ‘’Not until the INEC code is produced, it should be known that the Turaki group is not recognised and whatever they claim is a nullity and falsehood
“It is important to let the public know that the claims making the rounds in the media that the Turaki illegal Executives have been accepted by INEC are false. We, therefore, challenged Turaki to produce the code with which he uploaded his Exco to INEC portal.
He insisted that there was only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, warning that anybody putting the image of the party to disrepute, should refrain from it forthwith.
