Hon. Dr. Jim Okolo Takes Office as Regional Director of Peace and Conflict Resolution

The National Defence College, Abuja, Nigeria was the venue for a historic inauguration as the International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS) USA formally launched its West African Chapter. The ceremony marked the induction of Hon. Dr. Jim Chimezie Okolo as the Regional Director of Peace and Conflict Resolution, a role that entrusts him with advancing dialogue, justice, and human rights across the region.

The International Human Rights Protection Service, headquartered in Florida, USA, is a globally recognized institution dedicated to defending fundamental freedoms and strengthening peace worldwide. Its expansion into West Africa reflects a strategic commitment to addressing the region’s pressing challenges of political instability, ethnic divisions, and conflict over resources.

Hon. Dr. Okolo’s appointment comes with a formidable record of international and national service. Accredited by Nouvelle Perspective, an International Democratic Institute, he has led Nigeria’s delegation to several global election observation missions. His work has taken him to Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Republic of Chad, Togo, Burundi, and the United States, where he served as Nigerian Team Lead for the U.S. presidential election observer mission. His assignments have also extended to Germany, France, and Italy, underscoring his global credibility in promoting transparency and accountability in democratic processes.

Beyond his international engagements, Dr. Okolo has distinguished himself in philanthropy, governance, and sports development. He is the President of the Jim Mezie Foundation, dedicated to community empowerment and social development, and the Chief Executive Officer of Jimez Petroleum Resources Ltd, reflecting his influence in both civic and economic spheres. In sports administration, he serves as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the FCT Para-Volley Association, appointed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), and as Chief Coordinator of All FCT Sports Associations (AFSA), mobilizing stakeholders to strengthen grassroots sports and promote athletic excellence.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Okolo stressed the urgency of conflict resolution mechanisms tailored to West Africa’s realities. He pledged to collaborate with governments, civil society, and international partners to foster reconciliation, strengthen institutions, and protect vulnerable communities. His words carried conviction, highlighting the weight of his new responsibility.
