Gen. Iyare Wins Dr. Obaseki @80 Golf Tourney
General Oscar Iyare (rtd) playing handicap 12 with a net score of 68 emerged overall winner at the Dr. Jackson Gaius Obaseki @ 80th Birthday Golf Tournament concluded at the weekend at the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Edo State.
Similarly, Osazee Iyare, a single handicap player recorded 79 gross to win the best gross on the men’s category while Sandra Emina, former Vice President, LGAN South South Zone won the ladies cadre with 88 gross.
The tournament organised by the BCGS Management Committee in collaboration with other notable members to honour Dr. Obaseki’s 80th milestone birthday featured over 200 amateur players, professionals and caddies who showcased the club’s challenging and picturesque 18-hole course.
However, Joseph Kayoma (handicap 17) won the men’s trophy
with a net score of 74 beating Felix Aganmwonyi (handicap 14) on count-back, while Dr. Matthew Oriakhi (handicap 13) beat Vice Captain, Victor Oriasotie (handicap 6) on count-back, having both played 75 net to settle for third and fourth respectively.
Ladies handicap 0 -28 category was battle of handicap 20s as Dorothy Chukwudi Esq. (handicap 28) won with 67 net while Lady Vice Captain, Joy Omorogiuwa (handicap 21) with 76 net placed second, beating Edith Edeki (handicap 21) who settled for third spot on count back.
Colins Okoro with a gross score of 67 won the professionals category ahead of Chukwudi Okoro who had 72 gross while Osas Enaigbe (UBTH) placed third with 73 gross .
Other winners were Dr. Mojeed Momoh (19) with 68 net in the men’s hcp 19-28. Ladies hcp 29-36 trophy went to Paula Oghumah (36) with 70 net. Alhaji Oseni Ahmed, 71 net and Robert Uwamagbe, 80 net won veteran and super veteran men. Also, Dr. Marian Benka-Coker, 70 net and Prof. Josephine Mokwunyei, 76 net won veteran and super veteran ladies too.
Guest men trophy was won by G. Omonohio, 71 net, Ikay Afe with 79 net won the special guest men while Juliet Udah, 82 net won the guest ladies trophy
Moreover, Lucky Osarenkhoe, and Juliet Ogbeifun won longest drive, hole one, while Elder Monday Ikhureigbe won the nearest the pin, hole two on Friday.
Former Lady captain, Suwadeetu Mahmud and Oriasotie won longest drive, hole 18 and 10 respectively. Sandra Emina, former Vice President, LGAN South South Zone, and Mr. G. Omonohio won nearest the pin hole 14.
Encomiums were showered on the celebrant, who was accompanied to the dinner party by his wife, children, grandchildren, family members, friends and many others.
