The Minister Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike is to be honoured with the ‘Nigeria Infrastructure Minister of the Year’ award by aborigines of the FCT for his enormous contribution to the development of outer city districts and satellite towns in Abuja.
A statement signed yesterday by the Secretary General of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KAGBADA), Peter Samuel Aye, said FCT indigenes had never witnessed huge infrastructure developments all at once in the outer city districts and satellite towns like that currently being undertaken under the Tinubu administration and the current minister.
The statement noted that the award conferment on Wike and other awardees comes up on Saturday 13th December 2025 at a grand reception at Jummai Aduda Townhall in Karu District, Abuja.
It added that the event will also feature a public lecture on FCT 2026 elections to be delivered by Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Gambia, Ambassador Ayuba Jacob Ngbako, including a scholarship award for indigent people as well as an empowerment scheme for Karu Chiefdom residents.
He stressed that the community decided to honour Wike for the great infrastructure projects drawn to their community like the completed rehabilitation of the Nyanya-Karu-Jikwoyi-Karshi road, the completed Kugbo Bus Terminal, Kugbo International Market and award of contracts for the reconstruction of Karu township roads.
Others include the contract for the Karu Water Supply Project (Lot 2) which is a major FCT Administration initiative launched in August 2025 to expand clean water access in Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, and nearby communities, among others.
The people of Karu also commended the FCT Minister for the hand of fellowship to their political leader and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda while also commending the appointment of Richard Dauda as Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Wike’s decision to terminate the long-running Apo–Karshi road contract and reward it to a competent construction firm to end years of delays and deliver relief to residents also excited the Abuja indigenes, who promised constant support for the current FCT Administration.
KAGBADA also pleaded with the minister to intervene over the non-appointment of any FCT indigene as a career or non-career ambassador, saying that the people were already missing out on several federal appointments of recent including that of the appointments made into the board of the North Central Development Commission, NCDC.
