Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Three New Non-Career Ambassadors

Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm three non-career ambassadorial nominees as part of ongoing adjustments to Nigeria’s diplomatic representation abroad.

They are, Kayode Aare (Ogun State); Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State) and Ayodele Oke (Oyo State).

This was contained in a letter transmitted to the upper chamber and read on the floor during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Tinubu urged the Senate to give the nominations expeditious consideration in line with constitutional provisions guiding the appointment of ambassadors.

Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the nominees to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening.

The committee is expected to scrutinise their credentials, engage them on Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, and report back to the full chamber within one week.

The confirmation, once completed, will add to the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the foreign service and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements globally.
