Sessions with Brenique: An Event Showcasing Creativity and Cultural Leadership
By Emmanuel Daraloye
Brenique, the Nigerian-born UK-based singer and songwriter, convened people together for her impactful live session. “Sessions with Brenique” happened on the 22nd of November, 2025, at the Eiger Music Studios, New Craven Gate, Leeds, LS11 5NF. It was an organized event that brought together different art forms. The sessions were of the performance of live music, art exhibitions, spoken word renditions, games, and networking.
“Sessions with Brenique” showcases artistic performances, which all together put forth sparkling creativity, but the event also unravels Brenique’s organizational abilities, which are important cultural leadership qualities. She organized and managed the event well with her collaboration with others. This is evident in the testimonials.
Among many songs performed by Brenique, her refixed “Great is Thy Faithfulness” is a creative and soul-swaying piece that showcases the magnitude of God’s loyalty. Her solemn start, the beat layers, her sonorous voice, and the band’s synchronized sound lighten up the audience. Also, her jovial display during her performance adds splendor to this session.
Brenique starts Kirk Franklin’s “Hosanna” with her keyboardist; mellowed chords and gentle flow. The most heartfelt part of the song is the first line of the third verse, “The Lamb that was slain for my sins and the One I adore.” Her falsetto at the end of that line is superb! There’s the only use of the keyboard, which enables this worship to be calm and steady.
Brenique’s collaborative creative, a spoken word artist, Tumilara Kayode starts her performance by quoting 2 Timothy 1 vs 7. “For God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of love, of power, and of a sound mind.” And she reminds the audience of what fear does. “But if there’s something that I know, it’s that when fear comes, fear comes to put your best self to the ground.” However, “… you remind yourself that you are a city set on a hill. You remind yourself that your life counts for plenty, so why express little of yourself?”
“Words can’t break me down, and I’m not afraid of chasing my dreams.” Another line that strikes in Brenique’s performed song, “Fearless.” This is Brenique’s original song, and it also tells the story of a made mind who knows that even from a zero, she can be a hero. Brenique’s pitches and vocal strength on this song are commendable. The song, just on keyboard chords, finds the listeners’ souls. “Fearless” was the first single she released in 2021, at a time she battled low self-esteem. Telling her story, she wrapped it up with more motivations about being fearless.
“Sessions with Brenique” features art exhibitions. The visual artist, Oluwapelumi Oluyemi noted that the stories behind each of the art pieces were told of a period in the life of the artist when she faced struggles, and she titled them “You may enter.” Brenique’s collaboration with this visual art brought more emotional layers to her event, as the stories told are relatable, too.
Brenique’s artistic vision is seeing different forms of art perform one function, which is not art for art’s sake, but art for function’s sake, which is to express and engage with the audience present. Brenique and her collaborated creatives use storytelling as a tool in their performances. More generous of Brenique, again, is the sharing of her stage with these creatives. This act and event would strengthen emerging creatives in the community.
Brenique has shown the light in her, and like one of the testimonials said after the event, the world should look out for Brenique, as she’s a rising star. Her leadership and organizational skills in curating this event and bringing together a community have shown that she has what it takes to make more of her musical career.
