How DJ Pretty Play Became a Global Ambassador for Afrobeats
Nigerian DJ and cultural curator, DJ Pretty Play, has solidified her status as one of the key figures carrying the Afrobeats movement to international audiences, with performances stretching across Africa and major global stages.
Her rise has been steady but intentional. After beginning her training in 2014 and relocating to Lagos in 2016 to pursue her career full-time, she aligned with industry giants, including DJ Neptune, who played influential roles in shaping her musical direction.
Pretty Play’s bold mix of Afrobeats with Amapiano, hip-hop and Afro-house has caught the attention of international platforms, earning her invites to major events like Big Brother Naija and the AFRIMMA Awards in the United States.
Her signature style—defined by crisp mixing, energetic transitions and inventive remixes—has made her a crowd favourite and placed her among the African DJs gaining global traction.
She has released a line-up of exclusive mixtapes showcasing her versatility and has worked with artists such as Magnito and Skales.
With more international collaborations underway, Pretty Play says her mission is to “expand the sound of Africa across every continent.”
