Nigerian costume designer and creative visionary, Priscilla Anachu, has been nominated for Achievement in Costume Design at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2025, in recognition of her outstanding work on the epic Nollywood feature film, The Masked King.
The nomination marks a major milestone in Anachu’s career, celebrating her unique ability to fuse history, culture, and storytelling through costume.
The Masked King, a historical drama that explores legacy, royalty, and identity, received multiple AMAA nominations this year and has garnered acclaim across Africa for its visual excellence and compelling narrative.
“This nomination is more than an honour — it’s a reminder that storytelling through fabric, detail, and design matters,” said Anachu. “The Masked King stretched me as a designer in every way, and I’m grateful to the team that made it possible.”
Anachu’s creative footprint spans across major streaming platforms and broadcast networks, with her costume work featured on productions available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Africa Magic. From high-profile feature films to widely viewed digital series, her contributions reflect a dynamic presence in both local and international storytelling spaces.
Since launching her career, Anachu has built an impressive portfolio working across film, television, and digital productions. She has been involved in internationally distributed projects, worked with top Nigerian directors, and continues to influence the next generation of creatives through The Stylist Community, a grassroots fashion education initiative she co-founded.
The Africa Movie Academy Awards, founded in 2005 by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, remains one of the most prestigious recognitions of excellence in African cinema. The 2025 ceremony was held on 9 November 2025 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. Although Anachu was unable to attend the event in person due to her academic commitments in the UK, she was proudly represented by her team.
Her nomination underscores the rising global impact of Nigerian costume designers and the essential role of fashion and visual storytelling in African film.
