Nigerian startup Captain Cool, Positions to Tackle Nigeria’s AC Service Gap
A new indigenous brand, Captain Cool, has entered the Nigerian market, aiming to provide professional and reliable air conditioning solutions to homes and businesses across the country.
Launched in mid-2025 as a specialized subsidiary of the infrastructure company Sabiwork, the brand was conceived to meet the growing demand for expert cooling system services observed during large-scale construction projects.
The founder, Mr. Olatayo Ajiboye, stated that the company was born from a clear need in the market. “We consistently saw clients who had invested in good air conditioning units but suffered from poor installation and unreliable maintenance. This led to discomfort and wasted resources. We launched Captain Cool to bridge this gap with a promise of professionalism, quality, and customer-centric service,” he said.
The company’s commitment was tested immediately, securing its first contract to supply and install units for a hotel in Benin City within a week of its launch.
With a mission to deliver top-tier solutions, Captain Cool addresses common issues like frequent breakdowns and inefficient maintenance. The company offers end-to-end services, including installation, routine maintenance, and prompt repairs for both residential and commercial clients.
Despite a positive reception, the company acknowledges facing industry challenges. A major hurdle is the inconsistent power supply in Nigeria, which affects system performance and longevity. Other challenges include fluctuating equipment costs due to foreign exchange instability and the prevalence of untrained technicians, which breeds client skepticism.
Looking ahead, Captain Cool has ambitious plans for expansion. The company aims to become a leading name in Nigeria’s air conditioning industry and plans to expand its presence to major cities, establish regional service centers, and introduce smart, energy-efficient cooling systems tailored for the African market.
