The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has held its 19th Fellowship Conferment Ceremony alongside the 10th Anniversary of the NIEEE College of Fellows, in a grand event that took place at Lavenida Event Centre, Osogbo, Osun State, on October 15, 2025.
The ceremony, which commenced at 5 p.m., brought together distinguished engineers, fellows, past presidents, newly conferred fellows, conferees’ guests, and industry leaders. The event was presided over by the President of NIEEE, Engr. Felix O. Olu, FNIEEE, while the Provost of the College of Fellows, Engr. Adekanye Isaac, FNIEEE, led the proceedings for the commemorative anniversary and recognition awards.
Delivering the third lecture of the day, the Guest Lecturer and Fellow of the Institute, Engr. Dr. Taufiq Abdul Hamid, FNSC, FNIEEE, who also serves as the pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, charged newly conferred fellows to uphold the values of professionalism, innovation, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, being conferred with the fellowship of the Institute goes beyond professional recognition. “It is a calling and a responsibility to contribute to national development, to mentor younger engineers, and to use your intellectual, professional, and financial resources to ensure NIEEE continues to grow and lead in Africa and beyond,” he said.
Dr. Abdul Hamid emphasized the need for fellows to provide solutions to Nigeria’s persistent infrastructural challenges, particularly in the power and communication sectors. He noted that engineers must be at the forefront of implementing sustainable and inclusive technologies that will drive the country’s industrial revolution.
During the 10th anniversary segment, Engr. Isaac Adekanye, FNIEEE, traced the history of the NIEEE Fellowship Conferment, which began in 2015 during the presidency of Engr. (Dr.) Gracious Omatsone, FNIEEE. He highlighted the evolution of the fellowship process and commended past leaders for their foresight and commitment to the growth of the Institute.
Notable recognitions were presented to past presidents and key contributors to the Institute’s progress, including: Engr. (Dr.) Ayodele Dada, FNIEEE, Engr. Gracious Omatsone, FNIEEE, Engr. Emmanuel Akinwale, FNIEEE, Engr. Kings Adeyemi, FNIEEE, Engr. Felix O. Olu, FNIEEE, who also received a special Leadership Appreciation Award from the College of Fellows for his exemplary service and dedication to the development of the NIEEE.
In his keynote address, the NIEEE President, Engr. Felix O. Olu, FNIEEE, described the conferment ceremony as “a moment of pride, reflection, and renewed commitment to excellence in engineering practice.”
He said the fellowship is the Institute’s highest honour and a recognition of years of outstanding service, professional integrity, and contribution to the advancement of the electrical and electronic engineering field in Nigeria.
“Today, we celebrate not just achievement, but dedication — the years of selfless service, mentorship, and innovation that our fellows have rendered to our nation. As we confer this title, we are also charging you to continue to stand as pillars of knowledge, as mentors to the younger generation, and as advocates of ethical engineering practice,” Engr. Olu stated.
He further urged the new fellows to use their influence and expertise to bridge the gap between engineering theory and practical application, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, local manufacturing, and digital innovation.
“Nigeria is at a crucial stage where technology must drive our transformation agenda. As electrical and electronic engineers, we cannot stand aside. We must lead from the front — innovating solutions that address power instability, ICT infrastructure gaps, and climate adaptation challenges,” he said.
Engr. Olu also reflected on the 10-year journey of the College of Fellows, commending the leadership of the College for maintaining integrity and merit in the selection process. He announced that the Institute will intensify mentorship programmes and policy engagement with government institutions to ensure that NIEEE remains a leading voice in engineering development and national policy formulation.
“The NIEEE is not just a professional body; it is a force for national development. Together, we will continue to strengthen our voice in shaping Nigeria’s technological future,” he added.
In his closing remarks, Engr. Olu appreciated all members, conferees, and guests for their continuous support and contribution to the Institute’s vision. He reiterated that the conferment is not merely a celebration but a call to higher responsibility in advancing the electrical and electronic engineering profession in Nigeria.
Also present at the event were the Executive Secretary of the NIEEE, Engr. Kazeem Lawal, FNIEEE, Fellows of the Institute, members of the media, and other distinguished guests.
The colourful ceremony featured awards presentations, networking sessions, and the conferment of new fellows who pledged to uphold the ethics and standards of the engineering profession.
