CIPM Strengthens Partnership with Imo State Government on Human Capital Development

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), the only regulatory body chartered by law to regulate and develop the practice of Human Resource Management in Nigeria, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing human capital development in Imo State and across the nation.

This was during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Her Excellency, Lady Dr. Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, at the Government House, Owerri, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, where she received the CIPM delegation on behalf of the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Speaking during the visit, Lady Dr. Ekomaru commended the Institute for its unwavering role in driving professionalism and capacity building within Nigeria’s workforce. She lauded Governor Uzodimma’s administration for prioritising human capital development as a cornerstone of governance in Imo State, noting that “developing people with skills makes them self-reliant.”

“Governor Hope Uzodimma believes in empowering people. His administration has made workers’ welfare and skills development a priority from prompt salary payments, free healthcare insurance, and transport services to consistent training and digital upskilling through the SkillUp Imo programme,” she stated.

She revealed that over 40,000 Imo youths have already benefited from the SkillUp Imo initiative, and that the State Government is constructing a Digital Village to position Imo as Nigeria’s digital hub.

The Deputy Governor further assured the CIPM team of the government’s readiness to partner with the Institute in strengthening the competence of civil servants and professionalising the human resource cadre across the public sector.

In her remarks, the National Treasurer, Mrs.  Ogochukwu Egbuonu, FCIPM, representing the President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, thanked the Government and people of Imo State for their warm reception and their investment in people development.

“As the drivers of governance and human capital in Imo State, His Excellency and Her Excellency embody what CIPM stands for — leadership, innovation, and impact through people,” she said.

Mrs. Egbuonu highlighted CIPM’s statutory role and global recognition, noting that the Institute boasts over 20,000 members across Nigeria and in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America, including distinguished figures such as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and several state governors.

She extended an invitation to Governor Hope Uzodimma to serve as Guest of Honour at the upcoming 57th International Conference and Exhibition of the Institute, themed “Reimagining the New World of Work,” scheduled for October 27–30, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja – Africa’s largest HR event.

Delivering the President’s message, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, commended the Imo State Government for its visionary leadership, particularly in promoting digital skills and youth empowerment through the SkillUp Imo programme, which has graduated 10,000 young people.

“CIPM stands ready to work hand in hand with the Government of Imo State to reimagine the new world of work, professionalise the workforce, and deliver an efficient, modern public service worthy of the State’s motto,” he affirmed.

The visit concluded with the presentation of the official CIPM 2025 International Conference bag to the Deputy Governor, symbolising partnership, purpose, and shared progress.

With this visit, CIPM continues to strengthen its bridges across Nigeria, reinforcing its position as the premier authority in human resource development and governance excellence.
