“A Good Name is Better Than Riches” – Dr. Akinkunmi Reflects on Yar’Adua’s Legacy Through Floral Artistry
In a moving tribute to Nigeria’s late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, renowned entrepreneur and event maestro Dr. Oladipupo Akinkunmi has revealed how his recent floral masterpiece at the Thisday Dome was inspired by the values of service and legacy embodied by the former leader.
The Founder and Creative Director of Alveena Events, who also serves as MD/CEO of Nests & Nails Nigeria Limited and Secretary of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (FCT chapter), shared profound reflections during what he described as “one of the most exploratory floral installations” his team has ever executed.
“When I told the security team I was on national duty, I meant every word,” Dr. Akinkunmi disclosed, recalling his lighthearted exchange with Major Musa during the July 12 event setup. “Just as President Yar’Adua served with dedication, we too were contributing to Nigeria’s beauty in our own way through this project.”
The vibrant floral display, which some critics initially described as chaotic, was intentionally designed as a symbolic representation of Nigeria’s diversity and resilience. “What some saw as color chaos was actually a carefully crafted floral wonderland,” the event guru explained. “Much like Yar’Adua’s presidency, it was about bringing different elements together to create something beautiful for the nation.”
Industry insiders present at the Thisday Dome marveled at the installation’s intricate details, with many noting how it perfectly captured the essence of transformational leadership. “Dr. Akinkunmi didn’t just create a floral arrangement – he orchestrated a living tribute to service and legacy,” observed event planner Tonia Briggs, who witnessed the installation.
The business leader’s reflections come at a time when Nigeria is increasingly recognizing the importance of ethical leadership and service-centered entrepreneurship. Through his multiple ventures, Dr. Akinkunmi continues to demonstrate how private sector excellence can complement nation-building efforts.
“President Yar’Adua showed us that a good name outlives material wealth,” he noted solemnly. “As we remember his legacy, let us all strive to build our own names through service, integrity and positive impact.”
The floral installation remains a talking point in Abuja’s event circles, serving both as a masterpiece of creative expression and a poignant reminder of the enduring values Nigeria’s late president represented.
