CyberBloom was born out of Michelle’s desire to bridge the opportunity gap that exists between young people in underserved communities and the fast-paced world of technology. Since its founding, the initiative has mentored and trained over 253 teenagers, introducing them to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, the importance of digital safety, and the vast career opportunities available in the tech space. The program is run as a free summer initiative that offers a comprehensive curriculum covering essential areas like cyber hygiene, internet safety, ethical hacking, programming, website development, and digital responsibility. Participants are also introduced to foundational concepts in data protection and the ethical use of technology. The classes are interactive, mentorship-driven, and structured to help each teenager not only learn but also apply what they’ve been taught in real-world scenarios.
One of the most powerful aspects of CyberBloom is its focus on mentorship and community. Teenagers are not just taught to code or build websites. They are introduced to the mindset of a digital leader. They learn how to navigate the internet safely, how to protect their personal data, and how to develop confidence in their abilities. Just recently, two outstanding participants of the program qualified for international cybersecurity competitions, representing Nigeria in events that test advanced problem-solving skills, ethical hacking techniques, and awareness of global digital threats. Plans are underway to introduce Teen Tech Summits where students can showcase projects, interact with tech leaders, and explore future opportunities.
