Nigerian-Born KINGDRUMZ Unites African Diaspora Through Entertainment in Scotland

In a growing effort to connect and celebrate African culture abroad, Nigerian entrepreneur Kolade Oluwadimimu Philemon, popularly known as KINGDRUMZ, is making waves in Scotland’s entertainment scene by uniting the African diaspora through music, events, and cultural experiences.

Originally from Lagos, Kolade relocated to Scotland three years ago at the age of 26 in pursuit of a Master’s degree. As the second-youngest of six siblings and the first in his family to study abroad, his migration marked the beginning of a bold new chapter. What started as a personal journey quickly transformed into a movement that now brings together diverse African communities across the UK.

Kolade’s early days in Scotland were marked by academic focus, but his flair for organising vibrant gatherings soon gained attention. His first major event, a graduation celebration called XCAPE UK, filled a local Afrobeat club beyond capacity and signalled the birth of a new cultural force.

“That night changed everything,” Kolade said. “I realised there was something powerful about creating a space where people could connect over music, dance, and shared identity.”

Fueled by the success of that night, Kolade launched more events, culminating in the now-renowned Block Party UK — one of Scotland’s biggest Afro-Caribbean gatherings. His efforts attracted widespread attention, and he soon became a central figure for Afrobeat lovers and event organisers alike. Despite initial challenges, including difficulty securing venues that would support African music genres, Kolade persisted.

“I remember calling around, just looking for a venue that would give me a shot,” he said. “It wasn’t easy at first, but once someone took a chance, everything began to fall into place.”

That breakthrough led to collaborations with well-known artists like Johnny Drille, Slimcase, Magnito, DJ Scoophy (Obi’s House), and YBNL’s DJ Enimoney, as well as partnerships with popular venues such as The Club Lagos Aberdeen. As the momentum grew, so did his vision.

Today, KINGDRUMZ is not just hosting events — he’s building a brand. His entertainment outfit, KINGDRUMZ EMPIRE, is expanding into artist support and logistics. Currently managing a UK tour for DJ Scoophy, Kolade is venturing into tour management, combining passion, professionalism, and purpose.

Reflecting on his journey, Kolade acknowledges the setbacks along the way, including deals that fell through. However, he remains undeterred.

“I believe in showing up consistently, in doing the work even when no one is clapping yet,” he said. “Like the scripture says: ‘Seest thou a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings’.”

With a deep commitment to excellence and a clear cultural mission, KINGDRUMZ is proving that African entertainment can thrive far from home. For Kolade and his growing team, this is only the beginning of a much bigger dream — one that continues to resonate across borders and generations.
