Voice of Nigeria to host inaugural National Citizens’ Engagement Forum on Security
Folalumi Alaran in Abuja
The Voice of Nigeria (VON) is set to host the maiden edition of the National Citizens’ Engagement Forum on Security—an innovative platform designed to strengthen collaboration and rebuild trust between the Nigerian public and security institutions.
The forum aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and aims to create a national dialogue platform for stakeholders across sectors. Participants will include representatives from security agencies, civil society, academia, youth groups, the media, and traditional and religious institutions. The goal is to promote inclusive discourse on the critical role of citizens in national security and peacebuilding efforts.
Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, mnipr, will deliver the opening remarks. The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, fnipr, will serve as chief host and deliver the opening address. The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, mni, will chair the forum, with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, attending as the special guest of honour.
The high-level forum will feature two interactive panel sessions. The first, “Bridging the gap: Enhancing citizens’ trust in security institutions,” will examine strategies to strengthen the relationship between the public and security architecture. The second session, “From awareness to action: Civic responsibility in times of crisis,” will highlight the contributions of civil society, academic institutions, and community leaders to national security.
All key security agencies, including the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, the Nigeria Police Force, paramilitary organisations, and other relevant institutions, are expected to participate. Civil society groups will also be well represented, ensuring a broad and inclusive conversation.
A dedicated citizen feedback session will further enrich discussions, culminating in a post-event communiqué outlining strategic recommendations for ongoing collaboration among stakeholders.
This landmark engagement reinforces President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and marks a significant step toward institutionalising citizen-centered approaches to security, deepening public awareness, and fostering inclusive governance across Nigeria.
