As Nigeria continues to grapple with questions of leadership, inclusion, and sustainable development, a new wave of young changemakers are stepping up to lead the charge.

Among them is Ogenna Walter-Ekwubiri, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and founder of the Motivating African Youths Initiative (MAY-I), who recently joined other emerging leaders in a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The visit served as a platform for intergenerational dialogue on leadership, democracy, and youth empowerment in Nigeria. Speaking after the engagement, Walter-Ekwubiri emphasized the importance of equipping young people not just for business, but for governance and policy influence.

“President Obasanjo reminded us that leadership is not about age but about purpose and readiness. It was a moment that deepened my commitment to nation-building through enterprise and civic responsibility,” she said.

Through MAY-I, Walter-Ekwubiri has trained and empowered thousands of African youths, with a strong focus on leadership development and economic independence.

Her work bridges entrepreneurship and advocacy, offering youth the tools to take active roles in shaping Africa’s future.

As she celebrates her birthday this month, Walter-Ekwubiri reflects on her journey with a renewed sense of purpose.

“This new age is not just personal—it’s a recommitment to serving Africa’s youth and building systems that work. The future is now, and it is young
