Govt-Private Sector Collaboration Efficient for Affordable Housing – Sanusi Oluwatosin

Nigeria is facing a growing housing deficit, with millions of citizens struggling to afford decent homes. Addressing this crisis requires a collaborative effort between the government and private developers. SANUSI Oluwatosin, the Project Director at Landmarket Nigeria, has called on the Nigerian government to partner with private developers to construct affordable housing for the populace.

In a recent address, SANUSI highlighted the urgent need for proactive policies that encourage public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the housing sector. He emphasized that such collaborations could significantly reduce the housing gap by leveraging private sector efficiency, innovation, and investment capacity while ensuring government support through regulatory frameworks, land allocation, and incentives.

“The demand for affordable housing is increasing rapidly, yet many Nigerians cannot afford decent homes due to high construction costs, lack of financing options, and limited government intervention,” SANUSI noted. “By working closely with private developers, the government can facilitate large-scale housing projects that cater to low- and middle-income earners.”

He further stressed the need for policies that provide tax incentives, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and improve access to construction financing for developers. According to him, land availability remains a major barrier, and he urged the government to allocate land at subsidized rates for affordable housing projects.

SANUSI also pointed to successful PPP models in other countries that have transformed housing sectors and significantly improved citizens’ living conditions. He urged the Nigerian government to adopt similar strategies, including mortgage financing schemes that make homeownership more accessible.

Landmarket Nigeria has been at the forefront of innovative housing solutions, developing sustainable and cost-effective homes for Nigerians. The company remains committed to working with stakeholders to bridge the housing deficit and provide quality, affordable homes.

As the government looks for ways to improve housing access, SANUSI Oluwatosin’s call for collaboration serves as a timely reminder that sustainable solutions require the collective effort of both the public and private sectors. The time to act is now, and only through strategic partnerships can Nigeria make affordable housing a reality for all.
