YSEC Program Launches in Lagos to Empower Young Entrepreneurs
In a bold step to nurture the entrepreneurial potential of Nigerian youth, NerdzFactory Company has partnered with the British Council and King’s Trust International to launch the Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge Programme (YSEC).
This transformative initiative is tailored to empower individuals aged 18 to 35 with the skills, mentorship, and resources needed to bring innovative business ideas to life, fostering local and national economic development.
YSEC’s seven-week program combines classroom learning with practical application, offering a well-rounded experience for aspiring entrepreneurs. Participants receive training in essential areas such as business management, financial literacy, and sustainability.
Beyond theory, the program incorporates business simulation games, providing participants with the chance to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. These interactive exercises help sharpen critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing participants for the challenges of entrepreneurship.
What makes YSEC stand out is its emphasis on mentorship and role model exposure. Participants visit successful local entrepreneurs who share their personal experiences and insights into navigating Nigeria’s business environment. These encounters not only inspire but also offer invaluable guidance on overcoming common hurdles in starting and growing a business.
Throughout the programme, participants benefit from consistent support, with checkpoints designed to track their progress and refine their business strategies. As the program draws to a close, participants present their business ideas in a pitch competition. The most promising concepts are awarded business grants and ongoing mentorship to help turn their visions into reality.
Ademulegun Olowojoba, Founding Partner of NerdzFactory, describes YSEC as “a unique opportunity” to empower young entrepreneurs with the tools needed to innovate and succeed. The program’s ultimate goal goes beyond individual achievements; it aims to address youth unemployment and strengthen the economic fabric of Lagos by cultivating resilient businesses.
YSEC represents a beacon of hope for young Nigerians eager to make a difference. By bridging the gap between potential and opportunity, the program is poised to create a new generation of entrepreneurs who will drive sustainable development and build a more prosperous future for their communities.
