Ranto Clothings has concluded a collaborative empowerment initiative with Ghanaian luxury fashion house Christie Brown aimed at equipping young women in Ghana with practical skills in fashion design and production.
The Programme which was held last Friday April 12 in Accra was executed in partnership with Aisha Ayensu, founder and creative director of Christie Brown, brought together aspiring female designers for hands-on training, mentorship and studio exposure.
Participants were taken through sessions covering garment construction, fabric selection, finishing techniques and the fundamentals of running a fashion business. The initiative focused on women who have interest in fashion but limited access to formal training and industry networks.
Speaking after the event, Bright Urhobo of Ranto Clothings described the collaboration as a deliberate effort to contribute to capacity building within the African fashion space.
“There is talent across the continent, but access remains a challenge for many young women. This programme was designed to provide practical knowledge they can apply immediately,” he said.
Ayensu noted that the training was structured to emphasise discipline and sustainability. According to her, participants were encouraged to approach fashion as both a creative and commercial venture.
Organisers confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding future editions of the initiative to accommodate more participants.
