I Left Competitive Part of The Entertainment Industry to Learners, Chelsea Coker Says

Fast-raising entertainer and the producer of the movie, ‘Iceberg’, Chelsea Wemimo Coker also known as ‘Iya Ibadan’, has disclosed that she left the competitive part of the movie industry to newcomers, who also want a place in the industry.

Coker, in an interview with journalists recently, said: “I am a non-competitive person. The only person that I compete with is myself, and that’s me just trying to be perfect, which makes me feel that I could have done better in any movie, or in my other endeavour.

“Mostly, I concentrate on my life and my work, and leave the competitive part to people who are not secure about their talent or themselves.”

She added that: “I had determined to become an actor professionally since my early years, but growing up with African parents, the choice isn’t yours to make till you start paying the bills.

“I started acting professionally in 2015 when I sent in a one-minute monologue in a competition to play the character of Iya Ibadan on Instagram.

“I have a Diploma in acting for Camera and Voice at Seneca College in Toronto, Canada.”

On how stardom has affected her life Chelsea said: “Stardom has changed me for sure, but not in the conventional way which most people believed. I am the same person that I was many years ago when the world didn’t even know my name. However, sometimes I do crave privacy and spend time alone. So perhaps, stardom hasn’t changed me after all.”

While advising her fans, she said: “Keep holding on tightly and believing in that dream; set priorities, goals, and works towards them with the belief that one day they shall all manifest fully in successes and achievements.”
