A team of the Surveillance Investigation and Monitoring (SIM) unit of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) yesterday uncovered lubricant adulterating syndicate at mini mart along Gidan Mada area of Sokoto State.

The team swooped on the location and arrested a primary suspect who was found at the premises with various litres of adulterated engine oil.

The suspect, who refused to give his name, said that he is a manager of Na’ada, a dealer of engine oil.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene, the Sokoto State Coordinator of SON, Mr. Jubrin Mohammed, who was represented by the SIM Team Leader, Mr. Murtala Muhammad Yusuf, described the discovery as shocking wake up call for Nigerians to provide intelligence information for the organisation for the apprehension of those dealing with substandard products.

“Last time we got a hint that someone is selling adulterated Total engine oil, we swung into action and arrested the suspect,” he stated.

According to him the SON would not relent in the ongoing fight against unscrupulous elements that persisted in defrauding Nigerians through their dubious acts.

He, however, advised dealers and manufacturers to always do the right thing by upholding standards in all their undertakings to ensure a vibrant economy.

The coordinator assured that the organisation would continue to intensify efforts to apprehend criminals perpetrating such acts through discreet information gathering and arrest that would go a long way in ensuring that the country is rid of substandard products.

The SIM team carried out the operation alongside with men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps who apprehended the suspect in the possession of several cartons of repackaged Mobile and Amasco brands of engine oil.
