The House of Representatives has mandate its Committee on Police Affairs to liaise with the Nigeria Police Force to investigate, apprehend and prosecute those behind the gruesome murder of the Director-General of Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI), Enugu, Prof. Samuel Ndubuisi.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public Importance sponsored by the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Toby Okechukwu.
Moving the motion, Okechukwu said the DG was reportedly shot dead on July 7, 2021, by suspected assassins in the centenary junction axis of the Enugu Port Harcourt expressway.
He also noted that the late DG, who died in the course of national duty, was reportedly killed alongside his police orderly, while his driver sustained grave injuries.
Okechukwu said the House was aware that the primary purpose of every government is the welfare of the people and the security of lives and property, expressing concerns about the state of insecurity in Enugu State recently.
According to him, bringing the killers to book would serve as deterrence to other criminal elements in the country.
He said: “We are conscious of investments by the various state governments in the area of security and the overwhelming challenges which the states are burdened with. We are also mindful of the efforts of the current Inspector General of Police (IG) in repositioning the Police for modern challenges and curbing the repeated killings of our citizens.”
