Titilola Oyekan: How Photography Brought Me Close to Famous People
MY STORY
How did your career in photography begin?Â
I started my photography business by attending a three-month photography school, and three-month internship at the same school. The school I attended also does photography as business. So after the training, I was retained as a staff and I worked with the company for six months.
Why photography as a career?Â
I decided to go into photography because I’m a lady that likes to do unique things. Yes, unique because photography is mainly known as men’s business, and only few ladies are in the field- I mean as professionals though. I can do virtually all kinds of photography. But then, I have more passion for events, particularly wedding photography. As an extrovert that I am, I tend to have fun in between.Â
What’s been your challenge so far?Â
My mom never wanted me to do photography. It was a ‘big war’ trying to convince her, as she felt I would do better in tailoring business. But then, I explained to my dad that he should please support me morally and with cash, and he reasoned along with me to follow my passion. Another challenge is getting clients.Â
What’s your success story?Â
My successes so far are the calibre of people photography business has made me to meet and network with. It has also built my confidence level, trust me; I can stand up to anyone. I’ve had opportunities to take pictures at gatherings that had governors, senators, Atiku, Alibaba, Folorunsho Alakija, Sen Ben Bruce and not only did I snap them. I met them and networked with them. Â
Â
What’s special about your work?Â
Everything is special. I see myself being a very successful business woman both in photography and in other businesses. Just like the boss Lady, virtually everyone calls me already; I know I carry that grace already. I can’t wait to be an intentional wedding photographer that gets traffic for bookings without negotiations.Â
