THISDAY journalist, Rebecca Ejifoma, has been honoured by the Child Protection Network (CPN) for her exceptional contributions to stories promoting child rights and protection.

Her collection of works spans impactful reports, follow-ups stories and court hearings that create awareness on child abuse and protection of the children.

Ejifoma, alongside three other journalists were recognized at the CPN End-of-year party to celebrate media partners at the SOS Village in Isola, Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The other journalists included Adeleke Adesanya of The Point Newspaper, Funmi Ajumobi of the Vanguard Newspaper, and Henry Okonkwo, the Sun Newspaper.

According to CPN, Ejifoma has shown consistency, dedication and passion for the protection of children in Lagos state and the country; following up on cases of abuse, court hearings, publishing articles, and referring cases.

Her reportage is said to have made significant impacts, enlightening the public and children. “She is a powerhouse. You call Rebecca at midnight on an emergency rescue mission and she picks up. First thing the next morning, she is there.

“She is bold and full of energy. You could tell from her numerous articles. It’s hard to point at one. Even the other reporters honoured today all share the same commitment to this cause of protecting children and creating a safe space for them,” says the Lagos State Coordinator, Ngozi Okoro.

Okoro also commended Ejifoma for taking up presentations in churches where she provided families and children with toll-free help lines when in emergency situations.

“She referred cases to us for urgent intervention. She follows up, dedicating her time, knowledge and expertise in the field,” expressed Okoro, who was flanked by her executives including Ebenezer Omejalile, Ronke Oyelakin, and Comrade Toyin Okanlawon, who echoed her sentiments.

The organizers noted that Ejifoma’s selfless involvement in child protection and rights reflects a deep commitment to creating awareness on the dangers of paedofiles and the dire need to save every child in the home, society, state and nation. “So, these frames are a symbol of our appreciation to the good work these journalists do,” added Okoro.
