SystemSpecs Initiative to Promote Digital Literacy in Children

Financial technology company, SystemSpecs has pledged commitment to boosting digital literacy among Nigerian children, just as it declared closing its fifth Children’s Day Essay Competition (CDEC). 

To this end, the firm announced a prize of N1million to the overall winner of the contest in which it said was intended to motivate more children to embrace technology. 

According to the organisation, winners of the competition from all categories including public and private primary, junior and senior secondary schools across the country will be announced May 27, upon careful assessment of all entries. 

Speaking, Group Head, Corporate Services, SystemSpecs, Bukola Adeboye, reiterated that the initiative was part of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) initiatives designed to facilitate capacity development in the Information Communication and Technology, ICT sector.

“In February 2024, the submission portal was declared open to eligible pupils and students to present essay on the topic: ‘Protecting the Nigerian Child from the Dangers of Online Technology’, the topic was carefully selected because as a technology powerhouse, we recognise the importance of online safety and the contribution of parents, guardians, and teachers in reinforcing digital resilience for children”, she said. 

In addition to N1 million prize for overall winners in different categories, she said second and third prize winners will receive N750,000 and N500,000 respectively. 

Speaking further, the company Head of Brands and Marketing, Henry Eguabor, stated that the initiative aimed to encourage children to harness the power of technology to solve societal problems while driving meaningful changes. 

“In the coming weeks, a selected number of judges will evaluate the most outstanding entries to become the eventual beneficiaries of the 2024 prizes”, he declared.
